Voice agents

Agents that take and make phone calls, and hold spoken conversations with customers.

18 agents, each with its inputs, outputs and review level checked by a person.

Voice agents hold spoken conversations, on the phone or inside an app or website: answering inbound calls, making outbound calls, booking appointments, qualifying callers and logging what happened. The category covers three kinds of product. An AI receptionist or AI answering service is a finished product for a business line, set up with a phone number, your details and a calendar. A resolution agent is built for support and operations teams and connects to order, account or ticket systems so it can finish a caller's request. A voice agent platform gives developers the parts (speech recognition, voices, a language model, telephony and an API) to build their own agent.

The listings record which kind each is, what it needs connected, what it returns after a conversation and how it is priced. For the questions people ask before putting an agent on their main number, such as per minute against monthly pricing, after-hours cover, calendar booking, transfer to a person, latency and telling callers it is an AI, see the phone calls use case, which answers them in detail.

Choose by the job and by who will build it. A ready-made receptionist works with a few settings and suits a small business that misses calls. A resolution agent suits a team with systems the agent can act in. A platform gives full control over the conversation and needs a developer. Listen to the vendor's samples, since the catalogue does not rate voice quality.

Questions

What is the difference between a voice agent and a phone menu (IVR)?

A phone menu asks callers to press keys or say a word from a fixed list and routes them. A voice agent holds an open conversation, understands requests in the caller's own words, answers questions and can complete tasks such as a booking. Many businesses use one in front of, or in place of, an existing menu.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Usually, either by forwarding calls to a number the vendor provides or by connecting the telephony provider you already use. Some vendors also port numbers to their own service. The setup notes on each listing and the vendor's documentation show which routes are offered.

Do voice agents work outside phone calls?

Some do. Platforms often support voice in a website widget, a mobile app or a smart speaker as well as the phone, and some products are built only for in-app conversation. The access section of each listing records the channels the vendor documents.

Which languages can a voice agent speak?

Vendors list supported languages, accents and voices in different ways, and quality can differ between languages in the same product. If callers speak more than one language, check whether the agent can switch mid-call and test it with native speakers before going live.

What is kept after a conversation?

Depending on the product: a recording, a transcript, a summary, extracted details such as a name or a booking, and a log in your CRM. Retention periods and where the data is stored are set by the vendor and sometimes by plan. The outputs on each listing show what is returned; the vendor's pages describe retention, which the catalogue does not verify.
